Who We Are

How It All Started...

While it's true that the reason that we initially became friends was because our boys were on the same soccer team as little kids—it didn't take too long before we found ourselves having conversations around things that really mattered to each of us in our lives (granted they were short convos in between kid fights and school pick ups).

Beyond the woes and wins of motherhood and in between laundry and kid chaos, we found ourselves asking how do we thrive and not just survive? How do we create and build with intentionality? How do we step outside of the of the familiar and the mundane into a community of capable women? And, how do we create a safe space for our community to learn alongside us, grow with us, share stories, be active in our neighborhoods?

"What's with the name?"

One of the many things we connected on as friends was our love of nature—being in nature, being active in nature, the feelings that rise to the surface when in nature. Women of the Tall Trees was born out of a deep rooted faith in God as the Creator of all things. The values we've gravitated towards are found in The Bible, but our purpose is not to be the church. Our purpose is to be all the things a forest is on it's best day—a safe place to gather, providing peace, contentment, contemplation. Moreover, a place that offers rest, an opportunity to connect, space to explore and learn and change.

Women of the Tall Trees is just that—a group of women mirrored in the evergreens—interconnected to one another, constantly growing, deeply rooted, offering shade, rest, safety, sprouting new needles, shedding old shit and displaying beauty in the process.

Ashley VanOss

Co-Founder, Writer, Dreamer, Director of Neighborhood fun

Ashley is a Tennessee native and nature lover who moved West long ago in pursuit of new adventures. After years of boppin around with her best friend and husband, she settled in Seattle and continued the hard work of growing a young family (3 kids) and balancing all that comes with it (work, play, sports, etc). At her core, she's a lover of well written words, a good cup of coffee, a long open water swim, a puffy coat, margaritas on the deck, a win, and genuine connection. She has a knack for providing the best kind of neighborhood fun—making all feel welcome with a planned activity or a bouquet of flowers. In her spare time she works in Optometry and manages all the schedules and laundry for her crew.

Ali Ashmead

Co-Founder, Artist, Writer, Dreamer, Folding and Packing Pro

Ali is a New Mexican at her roots, who left the sunny southwest for the rain of Seattle for college many years ago. She has equal parts adventurous and creative spirit in her: she loves to be on the water or in the mountains, combine colors, coach soccer, plan trips, write, bake, and live life to the fullest with the people she loves most including her 4 guys (husband and 3 sons). Trust me, you want her by your side any time you are designing a room, packing for west coast camping, or hoping to wrestle with a thoughtful question. She sees potential in every room and every person, spends her days working in communications and design and has a heart for making the world better.
